How do I select steering rack gear?

New 9-5 Model year 2010-2012

Steering Rack Gear      

A. There is a code for the steering rack e.g. SC.

It is located on the steering rack , see picture below.

B. If the code can not be read or if vehicle is not available, you can still determine which steering rack to use.

EPC does not filter out the steering rack gear. Here is a manual how to make the correct selection:

The steering rack gear is chosen based on five options. These are according to the vehicle data in EPC.

1. LHD or RHD
2. Strut type: Standard or HIgh PERformance (HIPER).High Performance is also just called Performance
3. Steering gear: With or Without Variable Effort Steering Power.
4. With or without reduced rack travel.
   Cars with wheel size 18” or less has “WITHOUT reduced rack travel”
   Cars with wheel size 19” or bigger has “WITH reduced rack travel”
5. ENGINE: Some steering racks are also chosen based on engine type.

Example: YS3GR4BJ4B4002646 shall have steering gear 13270990
